“Local Olympic Champion retires her teacher”
Winston Churchill is quoted to say, “The outside of a horse is good for the inside of a man”. Michelle Gibson of Roswell has taken this sentiment to heart by donated her 20 year old Trakhener mare, Chausse, to The Happy Horse Farm. Gibson serves on the advisory board for the farm that helps children through therapeutic riding.
“I have been around horses all my life but this horse is my best friend” said Gibson as tears formed in her eyes. “Together we have been angry, happy, sad and determined.” “It is hard to share your life long friend with others but I believe in this program with all my heart”
The Happy horse farm is a place where troubled children can find peace, where a hurting teen can experience healing and it all happens with the help of a gentle horse like Chausse. “She has become an instant star” said Cheryl Williams, co-director of the farm. “All of the children are aware of the success that Michelle has achieved with the help of this particular horse.” “It is a sad reality that the horse that started Michelle on the road to such lofty success was not able to keep up with her best student.” “It doesn’t matter to a horse what you look like, or how smart you are, only what kind of person you are deep down inside,” said Williams, a rider herself.
Called by some, “America’s secret weapon” Michelle Gibson has become one of the most talented dressage riders in the world. Gibson has spent much of her time since the 1996 Olympics raising money, teaching and searching for another equine partner to take her to the elusive Olympic gold. Michelle has a web site at www.michellegibson.com where one can learn more about the beauty and strength of the dressage horse and about this remarkable, generous and talented rider.
